“How to Bring Out The Best In Your Dog While In The Field”

While still an amateur, Randy Berry started training dogs as a member of Hastings Island in 1971. Working for a large oil company, Randy transferred from San Francisco, to New Orleans, to New Jersey, to Houston and then back to San Francisco. By the time he had retired in 1999, Randy had the opportunity to field trial dogs in all regions of the United States. Upon retirement at age 54 Randy became a professional dog trainer and really went to work. Training out of Hastings Island, Randy has continued to campaign dogs on the National Circuit; running and winning in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Kansas.
Over the years Randy-trained German Wirehaired Pointers, German Shorthaired Pointers, Vizslas and one Weimaraner have won far too many local trials to count. Randy’s dogs have earned 30 Field Championships, 17 Amateur Field Championships and 29 Master Hunt Test titles. His trained Wirehairs have earned 10 National Championship titles while his Shorthairs have won 2 National titles and 1 National Runner-Up title. Randy twice won the AKC Gun Dog Championship, in one case earning First, Second and Third place out of more than 80 the best all-breed pointing dogs in the country. Randy’s Shorthiars, Wirehairs and Vizslas have frequently been the Number One Field Dog in the country. Thus far in 2013, Randy has handled member Kathi Boyd’s dog “Alexa” to the Number One GSP Open Limited Gun Dog position.
Randy is well recognized by his peers and competitors as a National Caliber Dog Trainer/Handler. In this short seminar, Randy will share with you some of the tricks of the trade and how to make your pointing dog a better hunting partner.
