Clubhouse and Restaurant
The Clubhouse provides members with a relaxing atmosphere from which to start and end their hunts.
Whether you sip a mug of coffee near the fireplace before a winter morning hunt, or sit down for
a meal in the restaurant at the end of the day, you will find the Clubhouse to be a welcome haven.
We have picnic areas in prime locations throughout the Club and members are welcome to use the
barbecue pits near the Clubhouse. Ammunition, apparel and shooting supplies are available at
competitive prices. Members may host their own family and friends or company events at the Club,
using our facilities. Members that camp overnight have access to the restroom, shower,
and television in the Clubhouse.
Trapshooting
Trapshooting is a great way to hone your shooting skills. Our trap range is a five man station,
geared for single throws in three directions. Each year, before pheasant seasons starts, we hold a
Competition Trap Shoot. This event has become extremely popular and competitive. We engrave the
name of the winner each year for a perpetual trophy in the Clubhouse and publish their photograph
and scores in our quarterly newsletter.
Fishing and Swimming
Surrounded by the Sacramento Delta, the Club offers great fishing for black bass, striped bass,
catfish and crappie. We have boat ramp from which you may launch your boat, ample parking for
boat trailers near the ramp and rental space for your boat when it is not in use.
Recreation Vehicle and Trailer Storage
Hastings Island Hunting Preserve offers two options for members to store their recreation
vehicles and trailers at the Club grounds. The dry storage area is available for monthly
or yearly storage. This area does not include electrical, water or sewage hookups. Many of
our members store their boats in the dry storage area in order to have quick and easy access
to them for fishing at the Club.
The second option is our trailer park. This area includes electrical, water and sewage
hookups and is available by the year. Some of our members store their camping trailers
in this area in order to use them for lodging over a weekend while hunting at the Club.
Kennel
For a modest fee, you can board your dog at our kennel. Remodeled in 2006, it provides spacious 160
square foot, covered runs. We feed our high performance diet or the diet you provide, twice per day.
Your dog will receive a bath prior to pickup. Walking, swimming or exercise periods are available.
It is our practice to rotate our rental dogs on a regular basis. This provides our members with
the opportunity to purchase a professionally trained, seasoned dog at a reasonable price.
We place our dogs in good homes while they are still young and fit enough to provide several
more years of great hunting for their new owners. Working with a prospective dog during the
hunting season is a wonderful way to "test drive" before you buy!
We frequently have puppies available for sale. Our puppies are bred from the top notch dogs
of our rental string. Pedigrees and hunting records from the sire and dam are available for
preview to those interested in their offspring.
During pheasant season, we designate a field specifically for dog training. This field has
low cover, making it easy to see your dog's fieldwork, and isolated from the rest of the Club
to help prevent your training session from being interrupted by hunting parties. During the
off-season, most of the Club's fields are open to members for dog training. We have several
hundred acres of varied terrain available to you to work with your dog. We also sell chukar
for those who would like to work their dog on birds.
When considering the training regime you will be using for your dog, please consider our
professional dog trainer, Randy Berry, at Von Steuben Kennels. Randy offers several training
programs and services. Depending on the needs of your individual dog, you may choose from starter
training for a new puppy, basic field work or troubleshooting sessions for a more experienced dog,
or field trial training to polish your dog's skills. Randy's vast experience in training and
field trials represents a great benefit to both our membership and our Rental String. If you are
seeking training or advice, please contact Randy at (707) 372-7209.
